ABOUT ME! :)

Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.

Hi there! My name is Amanda Almodovar and since the age of six, I knew that my life long dream was to become a teacher. By the looks of it, I must say that I have come quite the long way from the six year old girl who would teach to her dolls daily and help them trace their ABC's on a mini chalkboard! That six year old year with the passion and love for inspiring little minds has now turned into a 20 year old girl!
As of now, I am currently a junior at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. I am an English major with a concentration in Early Childhood Education and a dual certification in Childhood Education and Special Education with a minor in psychology. I am from Goshen, NY and went to school in Chester, NY. I come from a beautiful family where my best friends are my older brother, and my mother. Growing up with them by my side I was very quickly able to view the impact that a nurturing family plays a role in the individual you become.
At MSMC, I am part of the Women's Softball Team, I am a Dyson Scholar, a student athlete leader, a member of the Love Your Melon Chapter to beat Childhood Cancer, a peer tutor and mentor, an intern in a 6th grade Bilingual Classroom at South Middle School and most importantly, a Kappa Delta Pi inductee! Here at the Mount, the most valuable aspect to my college career is my education to transform me into an incredible future teacher to inspire my students to set off on their own journeys of discovery! Through this course, Social Studies Methods, I have discovered myself as a technological educator which is something that is extremely important to the tech savy world that we now live in! As a future educator I have realized that discovering myself in a differentiation of teaching methods and styles is the best and only way that I will touch the hearts and needs of each of my future students! This is why this course has truly helped me to look deeper within myself to decode my favorite teaching styles and methods, and to broaden my horizons!

Below is an image of my first "When I get older I want to be a..." Class Poem Project. In this picture I was six years old writing about the same dream that I have to this very day; BECOMING A TEACHER!

Educational Philosophy Statement

Educational Philosophy Statement

Thinking about my life as a teacher genuinely gives me butterflies because of the amount of affection and passion that I have for not only my own education, but to someday have the power to ignite the lighting of the torch of education for years and generations to come! Through my ability to fall in love with learning, I will ensure that my students have the learning experiences and opportunities to create a love for being a life long learner and wonderer about the beautiful world that we live in! As a future educator, I feel that it is through my teaching philosophy of leaving an everlasting impact on every individual that I meet far beyond my presence that wanted to become a teacher at such a young age. Many individuals grow up and decide, but I knew from the moment I could recognize what incredible opportunity stood before me if I could hold a hand and inspire a heart for a lifetime after my students are in my classroom. I believe in diversity, differentiation, inclusion, exploration, and discoveries and I will encourage my students to search within themselves to reach their fullest potential and set them on their path to success! I wish to be the teacher that my students think of years down the road and remember that I am a lifelong hand to hold, and brain to learn from! I want my future students to know that no matter what obstacles may arrive in life, they have the potential and hearts to overcome anything life throws at them and they are willing and capable of all things so long as they NEVER GIVE UP! My excitement to stand in front of a classroom and inspire the minds of the future is beyond imaginable, and I am more than excited to embark on this journey as would the six year old girl within me.

The Start of Miss Amanda's Journey through Science and Technology!

The Start of Miss Amanda's Journey through Science and Technology!

Welcome to my blog! My name is Amanda Almodovar and I am an English major with a concentration in Early Childhood education and a dual certification in Childhood Education and Special Education! I am very excited to get started with Science Methods this spring because last semester I took Social Studies Methods with Dr. Smirnova and fell in love with the teaching methods that I learned. The lessons that I observed and taught myself are quality glimpses of  education that I will take with me forever! Through Social Studies Methods I adapted to myself to several different aspects of technology and became a qualified 21st century technological educator!

In our first class of Science Methods Dr. Smirnova asked us to draw what we believe a scientist looks like! We then posted our scientist drawings in  the Introduction to Science Methods Slideshow! We created a brand new blog and I named it "A Journey through Science and Technology!" and I chose to use Kahoot to create my Digital Me Project that is due next Tuesday. I am so excited to create a Kahoot quiz to see if my fellow classmates can get to know me!

Most importantly in this first class, we reflected on the video that Dr. Smirnova showed us! Reflection is such an important aspect of teaching. If you do not know what you should improve on, then you cannot get any better! That being said, this video was extremely breathtaking, surprising, and also moving. When watching this YouTube Video there were many different statistics that were given that broke my heart. The reality of the 21st century is that it is bitter sweet because there are positive and negative experiences. The positive side is that there are many different opportunities for students to learn in a more direct and interactive way.
Watching this video I was happy to see that so many students worldwide are interested in learning through technology but I was sad to see that children are getting their hands on books less and less each year because of the change in technology. This video made me realize that as visual learners and 21st century students, we must adapt our lessons and make accommodations to best fit our ability to teach our students.
All in all, I am so ready to continue my learning and understanding of technology in the 21st century to enable myself the skills to be the best future teacher I can be!! Thank you for stopping in to my blog! :)
